Meeting on Tues., Nov. 13

Sorry it's been a little while since the last update!

On last Tuesday's meeting, we focused on transgender issues as the Transgender Day of Remembrance is coming up on Nov. 20th.

From the website:

The Transgender Day of Remembrance was set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The event is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder in 1998 kicked off the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999. Since then, the event has grown to encompass memorials in dozens of cities across the world.

At the meeting, we cut up ribbons to share with students on campus who want to show solidarity on Nov. 20th (at Hampton, since we'll be leaving for Thanksgiving Break on or around the 20th, we are asking folks to wear the lavender colored ribbons both on Nov. 19 and Nov. 20 for greater visibility.)

This year, 12 transgender people are being memorialized and remembered.
